The Hipness of the Guestbook

Wednesday, February 26th, 2003 · 3 Comments

I’m beginning to wonder if Web site guestbooks aren’t as popular as they once were. Since launching my own guestbook on 1.15.03, only a handful of folks have signed it — and they’re all friends and family whom I encouraged to sign. So what’s up with that? I ask. Why not sign my guestbook? Or if that’s no longer the cool thing to do, drop me a line to tell me why guestbooks are no longer hip.

Curious Gabes want to know.

My guestbook has been the same, though I never exactly advertised to people to sign it. The only non-friends person who signed my guestbook ended up becoming an interesting friend.

I’m not sure why personal guestbooks don’t attract much attention. It seems to be either that, or people use it as some sort of forum instead of its intended purpose.

I think most people can’t be bothered to sign a guestbook. Maybe it also seems a bit pointless? I don’t know.

The decline in guestbook signings is directly related to Spam entries.
