The Face of War

Friday, April 4th, 2003 · 6 Comments

I agree with this notice on the New Zealand site Scoop:

EDITOR’S WARNING. THESE GRAPHIC IMAGES MAY DISTURB: The founding purpose of information sharing is to empower individuals to make informed choices. If publishing these images causes those, who would otherwise send more to their deaths or support the killing of innocents, to consider the true consequence of their decisions, then publishing is justified.

Yes, this image is disturbing. But it is the face of war. This is what happens in war: People are mutilated and people die. The U.S. government does not want us to see images like this because then the masses will not support war and Bush who does not even look at the censored images of war on TV and of course would never look at an image like this because he is freeing the people, gosh darn it.

Also, be sure to read Mark Morford’s column Who Cares About Dead Iraqis? / Body counts, Rummy’s plan, and the grisly stuff they don’t want you to see.

Now I am disappointed, I thought I was in for some truly gruesome images. No gassed Kurds, Iranian, Kuwaiti and no images of the 25 years or Iraqi brutal repression, I’m sure there were some really good ones on that pile.

get real? what’s more real than this, BUDDY? you do know that this is what happens in war, right?

There was also that little boy whose parents and little brother were killed, and the boy lost his arms.

Gabe’s comment may feel a bit over-the-top, but he’s making a good point of reminding people that war has casualties and victims. Too many people watch it on TV, acting like it’s some sort of video game. “Oh, look! It’s Sadam International Airport! That’s worth 300pts!”

      ”I start it
       I end it
I kill and words will defend it.
       Got big plans,
       Blood-stained hands
Wanna see my name on the map.

On my way to save the world”

That is really sad but that’s what happens in war. I’m sorry if I’m being insensitive but it’s true. I support President Bush 1oo% and I think he’s doing a good job.
