I think this cat is talking to us: Our hole appeared earlier this summer as a result of a certain someone (yours truly) having installed our bedroom air conditioning at the improper angle. The water was draining inside the front wall of our house. Maybe we can hire that cat to fix it for us.

A Hacksaw & A Dream
Saturday, August 19th, 2006 · Comments Off on A Hacksaw & A Dream
The joys of home ownership never seem to end. Last week while cleaning the entire house before Jen got home from work (mission accomplished), I bumped the vacuum cleaner into the U-ring pipe in our upstairs bathroom sink. It was just enough of a nudge to open up a crack that had obviously been in […]

2 Years of Home Ownership

Two years and three days ago Jen and I became first-time home owners. June 14, 2004 is when we closed on our house. One year ago I posted this entry: 1 Year of Home Ownership. One of the many cool things about having a blog is for the (public) historical record it creates. I can […]

Faucet Replacement
Thursday, June 15th, 2006 · Comments Off on Faucet Replacement
In other news, I fixed as much of our broken kitchen faucet as I could, but it needed to be replaced. We had a plumber come Tuesday morning to replace it, as well as fix a bathtub leak. When one goes without a kitchen faucet, one really appreciates it more than ever. When one struggles […]

Outside Painting

It’s been an exhausting past week. We had the entire outside of the house painted all last week (to go with the inside), with finishing touches going on this week. It might not sound tiring since we didn’t do the painting ourselves, but with trying to work and having the dogs barking every time a […]

Painting Begins

Lots of excitement around the A_nderson house this morning — the painters have arrived and begun scraping down the outside of the house, much to Stella’s surprise and concern (we just had a barking incident in the kitchen when a painter appeared just outside the low window). And city crews are around the corner preparing […]

Enameled Kitchen Sink

Before: After: I’d highly recommend Perma Ceram of Albany for any enameling or tiling job. We plan to use them again to re-enamel our clawfoot tub at some point, too. Yesterday I started to create a spreadsheet to track all the home improvement projects we’ve done to date, including date of project, what was done, […]

Deep Cleaning
Tuesday, April 18th, 2006 · Comments Off on Deep Cleaning
After having our house painted last week, it was the perfect opportunity for some deep cleaning on Saturday, especially with the family coming over for Easter Sunday. Saturday was pretty nuts in terms of how much we accomplished: Moved all furniture and rugs out of living room, family room, and kitchen; vacuumed and swept and […]

Negative Savings Rate

It’s probably a good thing my blog isn’t quite as popular as that of fellow Saratoga Springs blogger Clusterfuck Nation by Jim Kunstler. If I had even half the number of comments that his most recent post about the housing market in Saratoga and across the country, Jitters, has garnished, then I’d never get anything […]

Tree Trimming
Thursday, September 8th, 2005 · Comments Off on Tree Trimming
Bringing more direct sunlight into our house, protecting our investment by allowing the sun to dry the roof and walls, and improving our curb appeal are just a few of the reasons why yesterday we had our four 80-year-old white spruce trees trimmed. I first wrote about this back in May when we got the […]
