Department Picnic (work)
Yesterday my entire department took the day off work to play at Stafford Lake County Park near Novato. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and I had a great time.
The day began lazily around 10 or 10:30. The first order of business was to get the margaritas flowing. One coworker brought a gallon of homemade goodness left over from a party he had previously thrown. After a couple margaritas, we started to toss the football around. Before long, we had a full 4-on-4 game going.
Though I didn't realize until I arrived that morning, our exact picnic spot is the same place where the Chalmers family picnics used to be held. So I had played football in that same spot probably 15 years ago -- though last time it was tackle, not touch.
We played some games -- horseshoes, "get to know your coworker," "throw a pie in your manager's face," and a funny relay race in which I ended up dressed as a woman. Of all the men dressed as women, I'd put money down that I was the only one with experience in that department.
It was a great change of pace from the normal day-to-day activities, and I'm grateful to work for a company -- and department -- that takes the time to do such fun stuff. I'm still sore from all the football we played.
