I’m in the market for a new MiniDV digital camcorder and am looking for recommendations. From my original list I’ve narrowed it down to three models: the Canon ZR60, ZR65, or the Sony DCRTRV19 MiniDV.
Any experience with any of these models? Recommendations? I’ve read the review on CNET about the ZR65 not being good in low light and producing constant background noise. Given that, I’m leaning toward the Sony.
My main motivation for buying a camcorder is to have a friend film my wedding this summer.

Of course, one of the main drawbacks of the Sony vs. the Canon is that it has only 10x optical zoom vs. Canon’s 18x…

You should consider Panasonic’s VDRM30 2.8 GB at $899.00.
It is coming out June 15. Using CDs to record directly, I believe.
Check out info at their website and Amazon.com

Dude, are you crazy. Go for the ZR60 or 65. I own the 60 and its amazing. It captures perfect images outside. The image inside in low light could use work but it is still decent. Sonys are over priced and are jsut a name brand. I personally dont like the sonys, there uncomfortable in your hand and are not as good quality as canon. Canon has 18x zoom compared to the sonys 10x. Canon ahs many good features such as digital effects and the canon lens wich are known for their supiriority. Also you can narrate your still images on this camera. The canon is a good choice.

Hi…I found your site because I search for “canon vs sony”. Seems like I’m in the exact position you were in a year ago. I’m torn between the Canon ZR80 (which is this year’s version of the ZR60) and the similarly priced Sony. Can you tell me which one you decided to buy? Is it working out for you? Thanks for any information.
