Cold Days

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006 · 1 Comment

That winter that wasn’t I wrote about just 11 days ago finally arrived with a vengeance. We had at least half a foot of fresh powder on Saturday, so it finally looks like winter, even though tomorrow’s already March and spring is just around the corner, unbelievably. It’s also been pretty damn cold the past few days… well, pretty much the whole week since last weekend’s blackout.

This photo from yesterday depicts the treemometer at about 6 degrees or so, and it’s pretty much the same this morning:

This picture of the thermometer brings back memories. We have similar shots of an almost identical tree mounted thermometer outside our home in Wilton, taken some years ago. The winters in Saratoga were long and cold but we must say, they were all enjoyable. The charm of the city, access to the many winter activities, and the notion of sitting near the fireplace at The Olde Bryan Inn enjoying a libation with friends conjures up great memories. Freezing cold outside, toasty warm within. Of course, the notion of sipping daiquiris on Siesta Key at sunset ain’t bad either. 4 months, 21 days, 20 hours until we return. Viva Saratoga!
