Not ‘Okay’ Sign

New Zealand Herald – Tyco mistrial bid fails despite juror’s hand signals: “Defence lawyers sought a mistrial after two news outlets – the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal’s website – identified one of the jurors who on Friday gave Kozlowski what the media reported as an ‘okay’ sign.”

Poor, poor defense lawyers. Their little mistrial attempt went awry. I wonder how much they’ll have to pay the next juror to flash a sign. Maybe next time it should be the middle finger right at the everyday Tyco shareholders who footed the bill for the multi-million-dollar shenanigans enjoyed by the company execs.

New Look

Monday, March 29th, 2004 · Comments Off on New Look

Google suddenly has a new look this morning: More streamlined and clean, along with two new links incorporated into the results tab: Froogle and more >>, which leads to a page with a bunch of cool icons and the associated services.

Perhaps the new look is in preparation for this year’s rumored IPO?

TypeKey: Comment Spam Be Gone

Sunday, March 28th, 2004 · Comments Off on TypeKey: Comment Spam Be Gone

TypeKey is the next generation of commenting on blogs. Basically, it’s a centralized blog commenting registration system — one registration and you can comment on any blog that leverages TypeKey. Officially, “TypeKey is a free, open system providing a central identity that anyone can use to log in and post comments on blogs and other web sites.”

This blog will certainly leverage TypeKey once the service is publicly launched.

I already have a TypeKey account since I’m alpha testing Movable Type 3.0. The cool thing is that since I did beta testing for TypePad, I didn’t even have to register a new account for TypeKey; my TypePad username was already converted to a TypeKey account for me.

Anyway, I can’t talk yet about the features of MT 3.0, but it obviously leverages TypeKey, which will be an awesome way to limit comment spam.

Exciting stuff is afoot in the world of blogging.

Home Shopping

Today is a good day so far. And it’s barely 1pm.

Jen made a most excellent breakfast. I got a much-needed haircut. We just returned from viewing our first Saratoga Springs property as potential buyers. It was a really invigorating feeling. It was also a bit strange to walk through the rental units of the property when the tenants were home — especially since we were all about the same age. I suppose I’d better get used to it, the more we look at multi-family homes.

This particular place is not for us, but it’s a great feeling to have officially kicked off our search for a new home. I’m eager for the day when our monthly rent check goes to no one but our future financial stability.

VGA vs. DVI Monitors

Thursday, March 25th, 2004 · 5 Comments

Update (4.14.2005): I ended up getting the DVI monitor (I actually use two side-by-side 17″ DVIs now) and it makes a WORLD of difference. If you’re debating whether or not to go DVI, do your eyes a favor and do it.

I have a new Dell E172FP 17-inch Flat Panel Color Monitor. For about $130 out of pocket, I could return said monitor and get the Dell UltraSharp 1703FP 17-inch Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand. The latter monitor supports DVI.

My question: Is it worth $130 for the DVI monitor? Is there a substantial difference in quality?

Thanks in advance for any input (ha).

March

Rest in peace, Aunt Patty.

One year ago today my Aunt Patty passed away. We miss her.

As I’ve written previously this month, there’s something about March. Big things always happen.

Losing Patty, losing Nana, losing jobs, getting jobs. All part of the yin and yang of life.

All closures. All new beginnings.

Spring is here. The snow has almost melted.
