If you’re opposed to mindless wars, read on.
This site contains some very interesting suggestions on how to have a direct impact on preventing your taxes from paying for the military. Of course, most of the options are illegal and require big balls, but they are certainly some simple steps:
War Tax Resistance
It’s good to know we’re not totally powerless in preventing what our government chooses to do, eh?

Tuesday, January 21st, 2003 · Comments Off on My First Laser Printer
Today I bought my first laser printer. Folks have often asked me why I, someone who loves technology like I do and who prides himself on having all the latest gadgets, don’t have a printer. Well, I’m also cheap when it comes to things like that. I’ve always had access to laser printers at work, so what’s the point of having one at home?
Sure, in college I had the good ol’ Apple StyleWriter 1200, which I gave away last year (before the last move). But even then I had easy access to a laser printer at my place of employment, the Vassar Computer Store.
Of course, I’ve always thought it would be super convenient to have a printer at home, but I’m not into inkjets, which is what most people have. And I’ve never really wanted to fork out the couple hundred or so for a laser printer.
And so, at last, this cheapskate technologist has purchased something that has met both his needs: The HP LaserJet 6L printer. And what did I pay for it? A whopping 15 bucks. Not too shabby, eh?

I just figured out why Happy is so drawn to wood: He must be a beaver. You see, Happy has this habbit of seeking out anything made of or even resembling wood and eating it. Jen and I haven’t been able to figure it out. But I think I just did.
The proof, you ask? Simple: Take a look at today’s Dilbert.

Tonight I stumbled across what you might call a collective blog, LazyWeb. The site is a blog. But it does not belong to just one person; it belongs to many. Those who blog contribute to it. I’ve already contributed to it with my last post about the anti-war protest photos. You see, as you’re blogging your post, you simply ping the below URL, LazyWeb takes an excerpt from your post, adds a link, and voila! Your post is now in front of however many people stumble across LazyWeb or look at it on any kind of regular basis, as I now intend to do (I’ve added it to my favorites).
TrackBack URL to ping to post to LazyWeb:
http://blog.mediacooperative.com/mt-pi.cgi
The concept is not unlike two other sites I already ping on a regular basis (with every post) — blo.gs and Weblogs.com. The difference, however, is that these two sites list simply the title of recently updated blogs — and are thus designed to have folks ping them with every single post.
LazyWeb, on the other hand, isn’t necessarily designed to be pinged with every post (though I did consider briefly configuring MT to do just that, but decided against it — for now, anyway). Rather, it’s designed to be pinged with individual entries that you want lots of folks to read. Unlike blo.gs and Weblogs.com, LazyWeb displays a snippet of each post that is added to it, creating a virtual, collective blog.
Good stuff.

As long as I’m uploading photos tonight, I thought I’d also upload some of the photos I took from Saturday’s anti-war protest in San Francisco. Jen and I met up with Ben and Jess before heading to Market Street with tens of thousands of other angry citizens who believe that war-hungry Bush should be stopped in his tracks.
I’m really glad we went. I had one of those feelings where you get a chill as a result of being in a crowd filled with energy — and knowing you’re part of something important. Now if only Bush would wake up and listen to the people he allegedly represents.
Here they are, starting with the most important meal of the day, breakfast:

I’ve been working lately on cleaning out my inbox and have recently gotten it down to about 19 messages from more than 100. As I’ve written in the past, the number of messages in my inbox is a good measure of my current stress level. I feel better already.
Among the nuggets of goodness in my inbox was an email with these cartoons not fit for print (warning: if you are easily offended by childish humor, sexual connotations, or nudity, think twice before clicking on any of these):
Enjoy!

bit.ch has a link to a great Bush speech. What’s that? “Great” and “Bush” in the same sentence? Yes, scary. But click on over and you’ll see what I mean. Be sure to watch the video clip.
Who would’ve thunk that Bush would ever come clean about being materialistic and evil, as well as embracing tyranny and death?
Finally, thanks to fuckitall.com, the Truth comes out.
